Any Excuse / No Excuse
We had a discussion sparked off by someone wearing a Lance Armstrong LiveStrong wristband. The wearer admitted to having had two "scares" requiring ultrasound scans of his delicate regions. Both, thankfully, finding nothing of any concern.
Most surprisingly, his admission prompted 2 more of us into admitting that we'd also been through the same process. In an office of six people, that seemed like a surprisingly high rate.
Or maybe it's not. Maybe this sort of thing is much more common, but us men simply refuse to speak of it. But this afternoon's conversation was enlightening - we had all been through that brief period of denial: "Oh no, this can't happen to me" and had all (correctly) decided that ignoring the lumps was a very bad thing, and had taken appropriate action. And all of us had come away with no problems.
So, look around you. Odds are that some of the men you work with have found lumps. But have they all had them checked out? And if they haven't, are they the ones that really need to be checked before they turn nasty?
Let's face it, it's not like us men need an excuse to grope ourselves on a regular basis: "No, really, I'm just checking for lumps. Again."
We're all used to hearing women being told to check their breast regularly, I still don't think the message has got through to men that checking their testes is equally important.
So do it. You know it makes sense. It might even save your life. And hey, if you have fun at the same time, that's a bonus, right?
